We are now 4 months into 2022 so use that to judge this year.
What is your favourite year of the 20s so far?
I would say 2021. I thought it was decent on a pop cultural level(much better than any 2010s year thats for sure) and a great personal year for me. This was also a recovery year not just for phasing out covid/lockdowns but also less controversy and political tensions compared to the previous year. 2022 so far has been meh.

Even though 2020 sucked in a lot of ways, it is still by far the best year of the decade so far. At least in 2020 the you-know-what wasn't mandatory. Masks weren't mandatory for a good chunk of the year. And 2020 was the last year we had "normal". The first two months of 2020 was still normal. And then everything changed and the consequences of that change will be felt for the rest of this decade and maybe even longer. I blame the government just as much as I blame the people for letting it happen and allowing their rights to be stripped away from them.

2021 but only january to august (september to december sucked but 2022 has been good so far I feel the opposite. The first few months werent too great because lockdown was still in effect but in may when lockdown ended it felt so liberating and in general the rest of the year was smoother than the first four months.

The 90s and 00s were kinda like that. The 90s started off with the Gulf War and LA Riots, but then became a decade of prosperity. The 00s started with one of the most controversial elections in US history, 9/11, the Anthrax attacks, SARS, and the Iraq War, but then became pretty cool afterwards. The mid 00s (2004-2007) were easily the best part of the decade IMO though (post-9/11, pre-Great Recession).

I don't understand how people don't choose 2020 since that was the last year we had normalcy in January and February. It's never been the same since then. I look back very very fondly at that time which is strange because it was only 2 years ago but that's how much the world has changed for the worst. January of 2020 is looked back on as a very innocent time imo.
