Mid 90s was edgy AF Grunge aesthetics were literally everywhere. I got sick of it quickly lol What pissed me off more about the early-mid 90s were all the goddamn obnoxious extreme close-ups and fisheye effects, not to mention blatant attempts to be edgy and cool. I keep bringing this up but it REALLY is the best example, but the infamous Nintendo Play It Loud campaign perfectly exemplifies the mid 90s aesthetic.

The late 90s was actually much more colorful and futuristic, it's really 1991-1995 that has that muted grungy aesthetic.

I noticed this particular aesthetic watching 90s commercials, particularly from 1993-1998. They used shaky and seizure-inducing effects, grungy fonts and colors(Either sepia, black, or dark blue), and edgy voiceovers.

I agree, for some reason everything had to look washed out and muddy for some reason

What's funny is that black and dark blue aesthetics made a comeback during the late 2000s and early 2010s, albeit with a much more futuristic look. I think of Android Honeycomb and Blu-Ray Discs when thinking of that era.
