This might be an interesting idea for a thread. Some people like to upgrade to a new phone every 12-18 months, while others prefer to keep their phone for a long period of time. Just out of curiosity, how often do you upgrade to a new phone? To be honest, I've only ever owned two mobile phones in my life, so i'm not one for upgrading to new phones. I've had my Samsung Galaxy S3 Mini for almost four years now and I don't plan on upgrading to a new phone anytime soon.

I don’t upgrade that often really. I’ve only ever owned a few phones since I got my first one (for the record it was a Samsung flip phone, but for the life of me can’t remember the model number now) a little over 10 years ago. I still have my current iPhone 6 which I’ve had for a few years now and works perfectly fine. Though Apple have since released newer handsets since then, I have no inclination to upgrade to the 8 or buy any other brand just yet. I don’t get why people (like the countless Apple fanatics in particular) feel the need to upgrade every 1-2 years when a newer product comes on the market. Particularly when there’s next to no difference between the newer and older version except for maybe a higher res front camera, slightly bigger/brighter screen etc. I personally don’t find it worth paying $700+ for something that basically does the same thing already.

Every 2-4 years. I've had my current phone for just a bit over 3 years now.
I know some who buy a new one every 6 months haha. It's not as expensive as it sounds since you just sell your old phone and buy a new one. About $100 for each new phone. I personally like rooting my phone so I void warranties, probably won't be able to sell them for much.

Not very often, about every few years or so. But like I'm an unemployed teenager currently, of course I can't afford to be buying new phones every 12 months or so. The first phone I got was a crappy Nokia in January 2011.

When it no longer works. Only on my 3rd now. First one lasted 13 years. Second one about 3 and current one is around 2ish.

I only get a new Phone if it doesn't work or it's outdated. I'm not one of those Apple fanboys who buys new phones everytime a new one comes out every 6 months! I've had about 5 phones in the past 9 years. LG KG800: 2009-2012 Google Nexus 3 2012-2013 Samsung Galaxy S3 2013-2015 Samsung Galaxy Note 4 2015-2017 iPhone 7Plus 2017 -

I am happy with my phone, does all it needs to do. I do get called upon quite regularly, but I don't care. I will probably update someday, but for now it is great. Nokia 6120 Classic 2015- (within family 2007-)

...and make note, my current phone (iPhone 7 Plus) costed me $1263.00 outright without a plan, so even if that phone becomes obsolete in a few years I'm not just going to give up on it because it's "old".

Nowadays they will almost certainly malfunction in some way by Year 3. My phone got mmc_read fail error, and there's no way to fix this 100% software issue. ðŸ˜

Nothing is built to last like it was decades ago. It’s how they make money of course. It’s funny, because I bought a fairly expensive top brand Hi-Fi System some years ago and it only lasted for a few years before showing signs of issues and eventually breaking down. Yet a near-40 year old Sony radio with a cassette deck in it which my mum owns still works perfectly fine for the most part with daily use.

Old things can still work really well (provided they are kept in good condition).
