it already charted in 2008 getting in the top 20 in Fall 2008, it was also all over the radio in late Summer 2008. Gaga went on MTV TRL in August 2008 as well & other media interviews, she was everywhere. It's not just that Electropop was already brewing before she hit the scene, there were more electropop songs out. Yes it did blow up even more in 2009 (that is when everyone was cut pasting the formula ) but there were plenty of electropop songs in 2008. Electropop and Dance pop kind of blurred the lines during this time. You also had Britney's Black Out album from 2007 & Circus in 2008 leading some trends as well. & yes this is listed as electro pop on Wiki en.wikipedia.org/wiki/When_I_Grow_Up_(The_Pussycat_Dolls_song)I can tell you these videos were in HEAVY rotation on MTV & Vh1 in the morning. I can also say these songs were on the radio 24/7. Well, then why not go back to 2006-2007 and also call "SexyBack" by JT and "Umbrella" by Rihanna Electropop too then? it was the bridge to electropop , Timbaland paved the way for it as well as Gwen. Gaga even said it was Nelly Furtado's loose along with Bowie that influenced her to make The Fame.

2008 and 2012 aren’t part of the same era. It really annoys me when people group these years together and it’s so common. The first half of 2008 was especially very different from 2012. Even worse is when people say 2007-2013, especially when 2007 was quite different from 2013. There even was still Mid 00’s influence in 2007 I would say, just because electronic pop started to make a presence in the Late 00’s doesn’t make it all apart of the same era when they still felt different even as a kid. I remember still seeing things like baggy clothing during the Late 00’s, even though people like to say that’s when skinny jeans completely took over. They may have been gaining more popularity then, but in the Early 2010’s it was rare to find anyone in baggy clothes. I also remember still seeing spiky hair in 2007-2008, and even though I would say electronic pop around 2008 is when you started to see glimpses of the Early 2010’s coming up there still seemed to be a variety of music during the Late 00’s. Compare this to the Early 2010’s where it just exclusively seemed to be electronic pop, rock music was still quite popular in the Late 00’s. From what I've noticed, it seems like when people talk about 2008, they only focus on the late portion of that year. They think of artists like Lady Gaga who really became more well-known in 2009. In early 2008, she was mostly unheard of for the most part. And don't even get me started on people who believe the early 2010's started in 2007 lol

- The 2000s were quite culturally consistent for the most part but, very transitional when it comes to technology. 2003 and 2007 were pop culturally very similar but, the tech saw a huge jump between the two years for example.
- The 1980s were not culturally consistent at all, I can very easily tell 1980 and 1989 apart (looking at the music, movies, TV shows, old video footage and family pictures too).
- The 1960s were fully set by 1964, there was already motown music, the British invasion/60s classic rock, the fashion already looked very stereotypically 60s for both genders (unlike say, 1961), segregation was abolished after the march on Washington, there was the JFK assassination and the Hollywood golden age had ended by then (and we had entered a bit of a dark age actually). IMO, way more changed between 1960 and 1964 than between 1965 and 1969.
- The early 2000s weren't really an extension of the 90s, they were sorta similar to the late 90s I guess but, that is as far as I would go.
- The 1970s genuinly look like a depressing decade to live in and I would describe them as the bad hangover from the 60s.
Some of these I don't really know if I would consider to be unpopular tbh.

Sure, Lady Gaga released "Just Dance" and "Poker Face" in 2008, but they didn't chart until 2009 It depends on where you come from. Here in Australia, "Just Dance" actually entered onto the charts during mid-2008 and was a reasonably big hit at the time, however Lady Gaga herself wouldn't reach her "pop superstar" status until around the turn of 2009. You're right though, she didn't define the music of 2008 like many people let on.

2000-2020 could have been the best period ever based on technology and innovations, but only if a more liberal political influence was consistency influential, 80s/90s energy and creativity wasn’t cut off and there wasn’t a mass normalization and promotion of materialism, conformity, narcissism and artificial social interactions.

(well, here...) 2020 was very changeful and 2021 is pretty different from 2017-2019 because of that. Even in pop music.
In 2017/18, the biggest genres were still EDM/Deep House, Latin pop, and Trap (of which that Soundcloud/emo rap style was super popular with Lil Pump, Kodak Black, 6ix9ine, Trippie Redd, XXXTENTACION, etc.).
In 2020/21, the biggest genres include Trap (but a different style of trap, more melodic and/or bouncy like Lil Baby, Polo G, Megan, DaBaby, etc.), NY Drill (this sound was nonexistent in the US until 2019 with Pop Smoke), Synthpop (Dua Lipa, The Weeknd at the half time show!), Pop Punk coming back, and Hyperpop rising in popularity.

Yeah, around Spring to the end of 2019 to me seems like it's what the Early 2020s could've been if not for the big elephant in the room post-March 2020. IMO the "proto-Early 2020s" period is like April 2019 to March 2020. January to March 2019 just extension of that 2016-18 vibe.

Spring 2019-winter 2019/2020 r what the early 2020s could’ve been before spring 2020 messed everything up. This may be an unpopular opinion, but I believe the transition 2 early 2020s culture began in spring 2019 & we’re still in that era. I actually said this exact thing and got booed out of the proverbial forum building lol It just so happens Game of Thrones ended + Lil Nas blowing up + Billie ellish becoming a house hold name around this time + Emo coming back as Eboy / E girl around Spring 2019. The energy felt different, did not feel like 2016,2017 or even 2018 it was different stand alone.

The energy felt different, did not feel like 2016,2017 or even 2018 it was different stand alone. Lmao I guess it's my turn 2 get booed & have stuff thrown @ me. I'm with u on all that. I also noticed those changes. I agree that 2019 felt different from 2016-2018, but it also didn't feel like 2020, so it was a unique year. Most long running 2010s TV & movie franchises ended throughout 2019. A majority of 2010s cartoons ended in 2018 like Adventure Time, but 2018 felt late 2010s & lots of long running 2010s shows were airing. I liked the vibe of 2019. 2019 had more diversity in music. Besides emo, I think R&B or pop began 2 make a comeback in 2019. Trap didn't seem as dominant in 2019 like it did from 2016-2018. 2019 fashion was kinda different from 2018 with more 2000s nostalgia. All I remember hearing on the radio in 2018 was trap. 2018 felt stale. Fall 2018 might be the redeemable part of 2018 with minor hints of change. I might be biased cuz of my personal life. I don't know if Fall 2018 should be included in the transition cuz Core 2010s influences were dead, hipster was dead, AirPods were becoming popular, TikTok & Bilie Eilish were creeping in, but didn't blow up until Spring 2019. I remember everyone watched TikTok & listened 2 Bilie Eilish through their AirPods in 2019. I feel that culture now is in a transitional state with us shaking off the late 2010s cob webs. Fall 2018 or Spring 2019-Summer 2021 might be a transitional era. I call it the "2020 Vision Era." I predict that by Fall 2021, the transition will be over & we'll be in a total early 2020s world as that's the 1st full school year of Biden's presidency & 9th gen gaming with PS5. It honestly feels weird having Biden as president, not gonna lie. By late this summer /early fall you most likely know the direction things are headed usually by the 1 year things start to become pretty clear, 2001, 2011 etc ( this does not apply to everything tho) but we did have a new president take office in 2001, it also took until Fall 2001 for ps2 to really take off due to shortages and lack of good games. Right now we have Ps5 and xbox series X out, and it's looking like next 7 months will be the "killer app" games Also Spider-man 3 (the multiverse one with the 2000s Spider-man in it) is coming out December 2021 ONLY in theaters, so expect the world to be back to normal by that time. Hell they are even saying things will be back by June due to the vaccine.

I view that period as what might be called the "Proto-2020 Vision Era" (April 2019 - March 2020). Basically, it's what the rest of 2020 and 2021 could have been like, but it ultimately and untimely fell flat after COVID. Post-March 2020 to now, we're in that Early 2020s Pandemic era which will probably last well into 2022, although less of a worry.

I got another. I hate how PC pop culture became last decade. Now don't get me wrong, politics has always been a thing in pop culture, and I don't particularly care if LGBT+ or minority characters were main characters as long as the story and characters are well-written. But media began to suffer greatly due to political correctness being the focal point of many movies, TV shows, and video games. Ghostbusters 2016, the new Ocean's 13 with an all-female cast (just because), Gamergate fiasco, and so on. It wouldn't surprise me that these are some of the reasons why we keep seeing reboots, sequels, and remakes in cinema nowadays. I kinda feel like we're going down a dark road with pop culture in the near future.
