I never understood the craze of Crocs in the 2000s...shoes with holes in them??? I don't get it. Also hated the circulation of the word "retard" or "retarded". This is the opinion I agree with the most. 2000s definitely were more ableist than today.

The 90’s were not “the last good decade”. The 2000’s were just as good and are way too under appreciated. The whole idea of a "last good decade" is dumb.

The 90’s were not “the last good decade”. The 2000’s were just as good and are way too under appreciated. This is coming from someone who was born in the late 80s and got to experience all of the 90s & 2000s. The 2000s were better. There I said it lol I guess it depends on period of life. Most Gen Xers prefer the 90s (up to 1996). Meanwhile, most Millennials are more fond of the 2000s (along with the late 90s).

I hate it when people say shit like “2000 or September 11, 2001 or 2004 and onwards suck!” Most 1990s kids are irritating with them believing they’re the only ones who can claim the early 2000s by calling them the 1990s when they weren’t. Yes the 2000s are underrated. Imo the 1990s are overrated. Not everything from the 1990s was great or magical as people with rose colored glasses crack it out to be.

Then those same "90s kids" only bring up stuff from 1999 - 2003ish lol. Def agree, people praise the 80s and 90s waaaaaay too much, to a very annoying degree. I definitely appreciate those decades but, jeeze louis, some people...

Two potentially controversial ones.
* The 2020s will be the first decade not to have a unique pop cultural identity of its own. With streaming having now become firmly entrenched into our day-to-day lives and all forms of physical media obsolete, the world has simply become too fragmented for new trends to truly define the masses in a cross-generational manner. The fact that the Top-40 charts are currently taken up by '80s synthpop revival, Trap, and 2010s alt-pop, is testament to this. Don't be surprised if we're still seeing recycled ideas and aesthetics on the charts in 2025.
* Rock would have persisted in the mainstream for longer had it not been for the widespread adoption of smartphones.

I definitely appreciate those decades but, jeeze louis, some people... Lmao those 1990s kids are posers. I get the early 2000s have late 1990s influences, but the early 2000s are their own era with their unique trends and rightfully belong to the 2000s. Yes even the 1980s are overrated. For how long will we butcher, romanticize, rehash, reboot, recycle, and reuse pop culture from the 1980s. I also appreciate the 1980s and 1990s despite me not being around for them, but people overkill with the revivals to the point it sucks out the enjoyment and nostalgia of those decades. I get irritated with late 1990s and early 2000s borns claiming they’re 1990s kids. I’m a 1998 born and I’d never ever call myself a 1990s kid, despite me growing up with reruns of 1990s shows, Blockbuster, Hollywood Videos, Borders, Toys R Us, KB Toys, brick and mortar shopping going strong, malls in their heyday, hearing 1990s music, bulky technology, VHS, cassettes, CD’s, dial up, Web 1.0 internet, living in a pre-touch screen technology, pre-streaming and pre-social media time. I get that online chats and online shopping were around then, but they weren’t dominating daily life. I’m a proud 2000s kid as I got to experience both worlds and the transition from old school to new school. The 2000s were a balanced decade.

Your first point will most likely make sense, but mainstream rock would've declined regardless of the inclusion of social media or smartphones because the genre of (mainly white male) rock music wouldn't persist with more racially diverse generations and computer-driven pop/rap music, so I personally think that music software eventually killed rock music in the mainstream.

- 1980 and 1989 are even more different from eachother than 1990 and 1999 are.
- The 1930s are very underrated. They were a crap era to live in, but they should get more credit for all the revolutions when it comes to music, cinema and fashion that took place during the decade.

2008 and 2012 aren’t part of the same era. It really annoys me when people group these years together and it’s so common. The first half of 2008 was especially very different from 2012. I agree. I think 2009 through 2011 had a lot in common. 2012 was kind of the bridge between that culture and the incoming mid '10s. As for my unpopular opinions, the 00s didn't have a separate identity from the '90s until around 2006. I think a big part of that was that the early 00s Internet was a very different place. Web 2.0 is what really changed the world.

The 1930s are interesting to me because I think they are comparable to the 2020s. When people think of the 1930s they typically think of the dust bowl, the Great Depression, and the migrants to California. That's the focus of most of the photographs everyone knows, such as the distressed mother with her child. However, there was a lot more to the decade than that and it's kind of hard to find much info on it in comparison with other decades.

Here are some of mine~ ~ The 80’s are overrated as a decade in everything but the music, I prefer the 90’s and even 00’s over 80’s ~ I love 00’s music ~ 2020 wasn’t the worst year in history ~ 2015 was still pretty boring as a year, so things didn’t suddenly go downhill in 2016.~ I liked 2017 as a year ~ Everyone praises Early 2010’s music these days. While the Early 2010’s did have some good pop songs, there were also a lot of bad songs I didn’t like. I remember hating songs such as “The Lazy song” By Bruno Mars and “Payphone” By Maroon 5 ~ The Late 00’s & Early 2010’s weren’t exactly alike and are different ~ Mid & Late 90’s > Early 90’s That’s all I can think of for right now, but how about you? I agree with this. Lots of users on this forum say 2015 is one of the best years of the 2010s but I may be the odd one out. I thought it wasn’t good at all pop culturally and personal though it wasn’t as bad as 2017.

The ‘80s can go die in a hole. The ‘90s were not as great as people remember. The ‘00s were pretty cool but I feel guilty enjoying the decade.

Sure chunks of the 2000s were better than the 2009 to the present in a few ways and deserve some degree of credit for being original, but nowhere near the quality of a huge amount of pop culture from the 80s and 90s. There are far too many things from the 2000s much like the 2010s that are substandard and unoriginal, far beyond the worst or what could be considered the worst of 80s and 90s pop culture imo
