Honestly though, it feels crazy that 2001 felt like another planet in 2011 while in 2021 it just looked dated.

Honestly though, it feels crazy that 2001 felt like another planet in 2011 while in 2021 it just looked dated. 2001 has a lot more in common with 1995-1998 than it does with even with 2009 or 2010, which is almost nothing with the exception of a few super early core elements first popped up in late 01 that took more shape by 2003 and were barely hanging and mostly gone in 09, the more I think about it

2011 was just the baby version of 2021. 2001 resembles a different era, most of it anyway.

Definitely 2021. 2001 felt ages ago in 2011.

Definitely 2021.
I can remember 2001 feeling recent to me ten years ago despite only having vague memories of the year, but it was a very different world to 2011. Social media was non-existent, mobile phones were still primitive, rock was culturally relevant and social attitudes were generally less politically correct.
2011 isn't that different from this year in the grand scheme of things, pandemic aside of course. If someone were to have fallen into a deep coma in 2011 and woke up ten years later in 2021, it wouldn't be that big of a cultural shock for them.

Is the year 2011 culturally closer to 2001 and 2021. Besides the pandemic, I would say 2011 is slightly closer to 2021 than 2001. Nothing like either, but if I had to pick one, 2001. The pandemic is a HUGE deal that cannot be downplayed.

I didn’t experience 2001 because I was only a baby, but easily 2021 it seems like. 2001 seemed completely different, especially with technology changes.

To me, the 2000s generally seem more "groundbreaking" than the 2010s. 2001 2002 and even 2003 seemed LIGHT YEARS away from 2011, in some regards as for ground breaking they were, they both had advancements. 2010s more so in tech and societal upgrades. Even in 2011 2004 and even 2005 felt light years away lol What I meant was that the 2000s felt more groundbreaking pop culturally diverse than the 2010s. Like there were more pop cultural vibe changes, and the difference between music in 2010 and 2019, while big, pales in comparison to 2000 and 2009 or even 2001 and 2008.

Not to say 2010s music didn't change it did but it was more gradual and not as shocking, while 2010s fashion was mostly hipster with a mid 2010s fad of zippers and beige mutual tones. The 2000s are more pop culture then the 2010s are, just more alive.

If this was "is 2011 more like 2003 or 2019", then the answer would definitely be 2019 no doubt.

There’s too many other things that make 2011 a lot more like 2021 than 2001. Social media and smartphones are the first thing that comes to mind. These two things have had a big impact on culture and they’ve been popular throughout the entire 2010’s. Twitter and Facebook were around in 2011 and are still around today. They were non-existent in 2001 though.

I can’t really think of anything else outside of maybe a a number of people holding on to the same silver boxy crt TVs they bought in 2001 or having similar TVs from then, a few people working in the mall still sporting spiky hair that was most popular in 2001 and the internet and phones being common place. Any other points you can think of ?
