Is the year 2011 culturally closer to 2001 and 2021. Besides the pandemic, I would say 2011 is slightly closer to 2021 than 2001.

Most of 2011 was carried through as is or beefed up or slightly altered in the mid and late 2010s. A smaller percent of culture never made it past early 2010s in any way including a few late 2000s holdovers. Yeah definitely closer to 2021. Almost nothing in common with 2001. The earliest year any early 2010s year, so 2011 included, has something in common with is 2004-2005. Maybe people in Eastern Europe were still holding on to early 2000s trends in 2011 ? Who knows

Who knows The early 2000s energy can never be replicated lol I can't really describe the energy but it was BUZZZY if that makes sense (with the exception of the long in the tooth 2000-2001 school year)

Well, 2011 is really nothing like 2021 besides maybe HDTVs, smartphones and social media (although they not weren't as refined back then), and nothing like 2001 at all. So yeah, I'm also for 2021, but it's more culturally farther than closer.

Obviously trends have changed from early 10s till now but the base identity is definitely much closer just a bit different and lots of things are identical. 2011 already had a number things in common with 2013-2015 and today is the same.

I look at some technology (smartphones and some laptops in particular), see some movies, shows, listen to some music, etc. from 2011, and I can't believe it's 10 years old or almost 10 years old. On the otherhand, compared to 2011, 2001 does seem very dated.
Now, I was too young to care or notice in 2011, so maybe 2001 actually did seem equal to what 2011 feels like now.
Then again, 2016 definitely DOES feel like 5 years ago. So it's a weird dilemma for me. Not to mention some songs from 2011 like "Party Rock Anthem", "Give Me Everything", "Friday" (ugh), definitely do feel like 10 years ago. But something like Drake's Take Care album absolutely does not.

Even in 2011 2004 and even 2005 felt light years away lol

The period of 2008 to 2010 really made things in the past seem more far away because you had...... Electropop the new standard Facebook the standard death of Myspace Death of emo death of pop punk the slow death of rock in general at the time A Recession A New president Tons of mall stores gone Cancellation of Toonami Hipster taking off fast New Nick logo Too much stuff changed in that time frame which made anything before Late 2008 seem distant
