I hear 1992 was, maybe at a stretch 1993. So many things that defined the 80s died in late 91, it'd be lovely if the same happened in 2021... I really hope theres like a huge shift later this year, hopefully it's not a bad thing. I do think covid kinda ended the 2010s in a way... I also hear that Nirvana “Smells Like Teen Spirit” in September 1991 and the fall of the Soviet Union in December 1991 killed off the 1980s vibe. I hope the culture shifts by fall 2021, late September to early November into the cultural early 2020s. I respect your thoughts. I think 2010s franchises ending in 2019 started the transition from late 2010s to early 2020s, but COVID further continued the transition into the early 2020s. I don’t think those changes completely killed the late 2010s. 2020 is debatably the last year I’d consider apart of the cultural late 2010s as that was Trump’s final year in office and the PS5 wasn’t out for most of the year. We’re experiencing PS5 shortages, so in a way we’re still in 8th generation gaming like the mid to late 2010s. The start of the Biden administration in 2021 debatably killed the late 2010s, although I’m not sure if I’d fully agree with that because we’re barely removed from the late 2010s. 2021 already leans slightly early 2020s. We still have many lingering late 2010s influences. For example I cannot distinguish 2019 and 2021 apart from COVID and the president. I’d never suggest they’re different worlds, maybe different eras, but that might be a stretch.

I think yes because there are very few late '10s influences left. Most of the stuff that's popular now became popular in 2019 which was already the early '20s culturally. There's very few things from 2018 which was the late '10s that are popular now except for trap music still being around. So I think 2021 will be the final year of late '10s holdovers and trap will die this year. Then 2022 will have exclusive 2020s stuff and the first year of the core 2020s.

"1" ending years are usually the years when big decade transitions happen, must be a coincidence I'd say the 2010s were the exception to that. 2010 was already very 2010s, but 2012 was the year that locked them in. 2011 was just chillin in the middle, probably why it's called the "peak Early 10s year". Kinda like 2009 was the 2000 of the Early 2010s, 2010 the 2001, 2011 the 2002, and 2012 the 2003.

I always saw 2020 like 2000. I see 2021 as 2001. Some major 2010s shows and franchises are still ending now (have been since 2019). 2022 will likely mirror 2002 being peak early 2020s and early 2000s years respectively.
