Hopefully it dies by 2022 tbh Not sure how much longer the current era of hip-hop can go on. It's become very stale, with almost every song being slow, auto-tuned mumble rap with a lo-fi backtrack or some kind of homage to an early 2000s hip-hop hit. I really think all the genre needs is one new artist to really shake things up and send the genre in a new direction. People were predicting the imminent end of trap in 2017 though and it's now four years later and it's still going strong. I think it really is going to die now, remember how quickly edm died? In 2018 it was still one of the top genres, then it fell off the map in 2019. I searched google trends for edm and trap, it seems searches for electropop edm peaked and started declining around 2014, it took 5 years after that for the genre to die down. Searches for trap peaked in 2017, we can only hope it goes the way of edm and dies down next year.

I think they are. Signs of 2010s death came as early as 2019 with 2010s franchises ending, TikTok, AirPods, Bilie Eilish all blowing up. Some can argue 2017 or 2018 when Trump became president, Gen Z culture blew up and some long running 2010s shows began to end. 2021 has accelerated 2010s death with Joe Biden’s inauguration, more 2010s shows ending, 2010s facing backlash and 2020s becoming more prominent. I'd say the Trump era is safely 2010s culture, in fact, i believe it's one of the things people will associate the most with the 10s Yeah I also associate Trump with late 2010s culture. I think 2019 is a better marker of when the 2010s began to wind down. Trump impeachment trials also took place in 2019.

I blame the pandemic for EDM's death and I think it will be back in a few years. 2019 was one of the best years of the decade in my opinion for dance music, despite the fact there was little bleed into Top 40 that year.
As far as trap, I agree with you. The current sound at least is way long in the tooth and I don't think it really has much time left.

Idk man, actual dance music is still popular, in the form (new) nu-disco (dua lipa, doja cat) when i say edm i mean The Chainsmokers, Avicii, Zedd... Songs like "Closer" or "we found love" or "how deep is your love" There was a time when every hit song had an electropop drop, but that died in 2019. Songs still have drops but they aren't electro-oriented anymore

I say good riddance as well because that type of drop was so overused it became boring. Deep bass house seems to be popular in the electronic music world right now. However, the entire genre grinded to almost a complete halt in 2020.

It's been popular since like 2011 and "peaked" 5 years ago. I don't know why people here want trap, which actually sounds different than it did a few years ago, to die, but want EDM, which has already had an entire decade, to come back. I've said it before, I think and hope that trap has a few years left in it, like until 2023 or 2024. It's only been charting since 2015 and even then it was only like one song - it REALLY became popular and mainstream in 2017. That's less than 5 years ago.

If it comes back, it is gonna gave a completely different sound. If they can't find a new sound then it's nust not coming back, unless they decide to bring it back for the nostalgia I want trap to die cause I'm curious to knoe what hip-hop genre is gonna replace it.

I think when we say EDM we are talking about different things. I typically (incorrectly) refer to ALL electronic dance music as EDM. It has been popular since the early 1990s if not before and will continue to exist in some form. I think EDM is a better generic term to describe all electronic dance music than "techno" as people typically referred to it prior to 2011. Techno also is an actual subgenre that used to often get applied to all electronic dance music. The subgenre EDM as it was known in the 2010s is long in the tooth, I agree. I'm looking forward to seeing where dance music evolves going forward.

Was 1991 the last year with 80s influence? I would say 1993 tbh. There was still a decent amount of 80s influence in 1992 (especially the first half).

I don't think trap will die this year. I think it will last until 2023 or 2024, it only began charting in 2015 and I'd say it peaked in 2019 or 2020. Brooklyn Drill will probably last throughout the 2020s since it only got popular in 2019. It actually began charting in 2014.

I think yes because there are very few late '10s influences left. Most of the stuff that's popular now became popular in 2019 which was already the early '20s culturally. There's very few things from 2018 which was the late '10s that are popular now except for trap music still being around. So I think 2021 will be the final year of late '10s holdovers and trap will die this year. Then 2022 will have exclusive 2020s stuff and the first year of the core 2020s. I really hope trap dies this year, but I don't see it happening. Care to elaborate what makes you think trap is going to die this early I just think this year is when all of the things we are holding on to from the previous decade will come to an end. I also think the pandemic will come to a close this year.

Care to elaborate what makes you think trap is going to die this early I just think this year is when all of the things we are holding on to from the previous decade will come to an end. I also think the pandemic will come to a close this year. I noticed a lot of artists are using contemporary r&b production instead of trap production. And even the trap pop songs all have r&b elements to them, it's a matter of time before popular musicians start dropping the trap sounds altogether (imo). I think we're in a transition era, from trap to 2020s r&b
