The hipster era definitely started during the summer of 2010. Suddenly everything went from scene to hipster in the blink of an eye. It was really solidified during the 2010-2011 school year, when Pumped Up Kicks became a hit and Portlandia came out. There was a blur period where scene and hipster was one, I can tell you I saw hipster in 2006 in it's early form, but it was like 10% penetration 2007 comes to mind when the blur period happens, it was a mix of scene and hipster This video was on Fuse in 2006 in 2010-2011 school year it became officially mega mainstream in its "new" evolved form

I think a lot of scene kids became hipster kids, but IMO scene and hipster are VERY different
You would NOT see a hipster listening to music like this

I wanna throw up thinking about it I was there for Grunge, this WAS WORSE than than early and mid 90s by a million miles Dude the early and mid 90s were still awesome even if you removed grunge and dark aesthetics. It's just that were getting stale at 1996-1998. Even in 1999, those areas were nostalgic. Mid 2010s aren't even an era. It's like a more manfucatured version 2011 or 2012 on steroids.

Mid 2010s aren't even an era. It's like a more manfucatured version 2011 or 2012 on steroids. Only recently I stopped seeing the mid 2010s as an era. Mid 2013 to mid 2014 is almost indistinguishable from the early 2010s aside a few technological upgrades. Late 2014-early 2015 transitions from early 2010s into the late 2010s. Mid 2015 to mid 2016 is almost indistinguishable from the late 2010s aside politics becoming more toxic, cancel culture going overboard and SJW vs Alt Right war peaking. Early 2010s: Late 2009 to Mid 2014 Peak: 2010 to 2013 Quintessential Years: 2011 and 2012 Early 2010s to Late 2010s Transition: Late 2014-Early 2015 Late 2010s: Mid 2015-Early 2020 Peak: 2016-2019 Quintessential Years: 2017 to 2018 Late 2010s to Early 2020s Transition: Mid 2020 to now I agree I think what defined the shift in the mid 2010s with just a minor shift in tech, fashion upgrades within the same style, and slightly different but nearly identical music, more support for social causes and more social media fetishization. It's just a stereotype of the early 2010s on steroids.
