When people call anything from the 2000s the “early 2000s” even if it’s from like 2008 The idea that the late 00s aren’t the “real 00s” The idea that 2016 is the last core 10s year First 2 points about the 00s bother the shit out of me that people say as well.

Y'all can talk about how "we haven't REALLY entered the 2020s yet" as much as y'all want, but the truth is that everyone in the future will agree that COVID ended the 10s, like how people say 9/11 ended the 90s The problem is when people claim March 2020 was 100% early 2020’s simply because of lockdown, and claim that 2019 is completely and utterly different from today just because of COVID. Nobody is really saying that COVID didn’t start the 2020’s transition.

I think people who say that or "we've been in the same era since the 00s" are either on crack or trying to sound smarter than they really are. I feel like this mentality has recently died down though? It used to be really prevalent in like the mid-2010s, but nowadays there are so many blogs saying how nostalgic the 00s are and how we see revivals of it. Idk about that because at the end of 2019 there was an article where this guy said we never left the 2000s and cited things like avril lavigne as reasons why...

OK, that has to be the worst take of all time. And Avril Lavigne wasn't even relevant in the 2010s like she was in the 2000s. He literally proved his point wrong.

It's like saying the 90s and 00s are still in the 80s because Madonna was popular in both decades. This guy doesn't realize that artists change styles when they transition to the next decade.

Even Kanye’s mid 2000s material sounds very different from his late 2000s material. Compare Gold Digger with Stronger or Heartless.

The idea that 2009 isn't a real 2000s year, even if it was more early 2010s culturally, it was still 2000s.
Also the fact that people say 2020 was still late 2010s culturally (at least after March). COVID changed everything, TikTok blew up BIG TIME in 2020. Now everyone knew what it was. In 2019 I wasn't even aware of it.

I hate it in general when people try and say "xxx9 was a next decade's year" like bruh it literally is not. What is and isn't part of a decade is very simple it ain't a science 😂.

In fact, here's a screenshot I took back in late 2018, and you can see already how big it was.

If anything, I'd say the opposite, that 2019 has early 2020s elements to it, such as TikTok being popular, and that it was the year Euphoria came out. Hell, so does 2018 arguably, since as previously mentioned, TikTok was already big late in the year, and that was also the year Among Us came out. I'm not denying that 2020 is unquestionably early 2020s.

But that could be attributed to me not living in america. It didn't even start vaguely feeling like the 10s until about august. The first half of the year still felt strongly late 00s. 2020 was early 20s culturally but early 20s in itself feels like the late 10s but with COVID DLC.
