Not really decadeology, but decade-related. Just found this gem: Big yikes You can tell by his avy that he was not even alive in 1993 when the change happened

That the early 2000s were still the '90s. That's the most crackhead take in my opinion. Sadly it's pretty common for people to have this take.

The idea 9/11 started the 00s. It may have started it from a political standpoint (and even that is arguably an oversimplification), but from a pop cultural stand point things were already changing well before 9/11 and things were already changing well after 9/11. It really bugs me when people put 2001 and 2002 in separate categories because from a pop cultural standpoint they are almost identical. There was no noticeable shift that happened between 2001 and 2002.

The fact that late 2009 is considered 100% early 2010s, or the 2009 in general just because of a new president. The fact that 2020 is considered culturally 100% 2020s just because of COVID (most retarded shit I've heard, moreso on inthe00s) That late 2012 was leaning toward the mid 2010s when it was clearly still early 2010s but just had the first signs of new emerging mid 2010s culture That 2017 and even 2018 (at least the majority of it) was not core 2010s. Personally I think the "90s ended after 9/11" crowd to be much worse.

That the 90s ended in 2004. We still haven't entered the full 2020s yet. That likely won't happen until 2023 or even 2024. And oh my god the fucking "the 90s ended in 2004" people are the dumbest people of all time. , because it really didn't feel like the 2000s yet, but come on, you're telling me 2003 for example was a 90s year? When everybody was playing PS2, listening to Avril Lavigne, and watching Newgrounds animations? Nah bruh. I think the "90s ended after 9/11" crowd is just as bad if not worse than the "90s ended in 2004" crowd.

I mean, I totally think their point is logical and factually grounded, but they all act like it's a solid fact and it's not an opinion. It gets so annoying hearing that everywhere. Like it's so popular that it's literally a cliche/meme. Like things didn't automatically change overnight. I think it's debatable that the 90s could've ended between mid 1998 and early 2003. There was a transitional period.
