At least for another year or two.. And I'm ok with that! Early 2020s music rocks!

It's ok but feels a bit corny and gimmicky at this point, especially having been a thing since like 2013-2015.

It's much better than anything from the 10s so it can stay for now but it better pack it's bags around mid 2023. We need a fresh sound, not just HD retro music.

I’d rather have pop punk or rock-inspired, raw music stay than retro synth pop.

Sounds like something out of 2014-2015. To be honest, the 2014-2015 season’s influences on music probably won’t go away until the end of the 2023-2024 season. Yeah hopefully we’ll get stronger signs by some point this year. At least some rock and pop made felt more distinct in 2021, lots of other stuff feels like transitional or late 10s with a pasted 2020s visual aesthetic.

Music in 2021 felt a little more distinct from the late 2010s because of rock. I guess those stronger signs will come anywhere between spring through fall 2022. I'm sensing a crossover aesthetic between the late 2010s and early 2020s, a hybrid or transition like you said. Yeah but it’s more like a deception because transitional music still is transitional music, it’s not going to change because of a visual 2020s aesthetic. I think outside of rock, we are still in the fake 2020s musically, I think also culturally to some extent.

Yeah but it’s more like a deception because transitional music still is transitional music, it’s not going to change because of a visual 2020s aesthetic. I think outside of rock, we are still in the fake 2020s musically, I think also culturally to some extent. By fake 2020s, do you mean leaning towards late 2010s or in between late 2010s and early 2020s? I think many things are both, somethings are already fully 2020s just there are tons of other things that aren’t or vaguely appear to be on the surface or tagged that way but aren’t. I think fair to use this word since we aren’t purely in the early 2020s. There are bunch of things which are already exclusively early 2020s ex Covid, PS5, pop punk, Biden,mid- late 90s/Y2K fashion, the problem is the transitional and vaguely 2020s stuff getting confused due to looks with true early 2020s things. I mean until we reach that moment where a chunk of things including certain genres stop being transitional but exclusively 2020s, not just vaguely or visually, we would would stop being in the fake early 2020s in that regard or in general, I would guess any time towards the end of this year to some point in 2024, it would be sad if it took until 2025, 5 years into the decade for this to happen. We definitely haven’t reached that turning point like in 2001 and other years.

If history is anything to go by, music should change significantly once this throwback era is over. The only way that doesn't happen is if the Internet has broken the way nostalgia cycles work in pop music. One thing that's completely new is the fact that the Internet has completely replaced FM radio at this point. Last time there was a significant shift in music, FM radio was still the driver.
Nonetheless, music is in a weird place right now with many of the factors that drive it on hold due to the pandemic.
