I would say the Pure 2000s started in May 2004 (The released of Mean Girls) through 1st Half 2007 (Pre-IPhone released). Cool take. I agree with it moving it back to closer to the spring. Imo: Super pure 2000s:Spring-Summer 2004 to Winter-Spring 2006 (becomes transitional after) I would have started it at spring 2003 but there were some other holdovers still around even when the core period was in full effect. Pure 2000s:Mid Summer 2001 to Spring 2008 (becomes transitional later) 2000s influences (not Y2K):Earliest noticeable incoming influence 1999 (a bit in 98) and last noticeable influences 2013 (some in 14 maybe even a bit later).

Let’s make it EVEN purer. The absolute purest 2000s lasted from the shutdown of SNICK in early 2005, to mid 2006, just before the launch of Facebook to the public. This is the part of the 2000s that had the absolute least resemblance of either the 90s or 2010s, and is just made up of pure 2000s energy.

From Fall 06 - March 2007 Facebook rose and had quite a buzz, I have said before if you look @ most peoples sign up dates for Facebook it's usually in the early portion of 2007 because that is when it had that magic buzz to it.

The '90s died in 1998.

We always talk about core parts of decades, basically where the decade's zeitgeist is strongest, but I think we can actually come up with a different term, to refer to parts of decades that have the most minimal influence from preceding and following decades. I call this the "pure" part of decades. So, how long did the pure 2000s last? In my opinion, it lasted from the ending of Friends and Klasky-Csupo shows (e.g. Rugrats) in mid-2004, to the announcement of the iPhone in January 2007. This era is when many quintessential 2000s technologies such as MP3 players, Windows XP, MySpace, torrenting software, AOL and MSN Messenger, and DVDs were all at their peak in popularity. It's also the era where almost every popular TV show, movie, and music artist is squarely 2000s and not also associated with either the 90s or 2010s. For TV, think LOST, 24, Avatar: The Last Airbender, Pimp My Ride, the OC. For movies, think Sam Raimi Spider-Man movies, Pixar and Dreamworks at their absolute peak. For music, think 50 Cent, emo bands like My Chemical Romance and Fall Out Boy, and Nickelback. When do you think the pure 2000s lasted? So basically 2005-2006 are the pure 2000s years ?

They're also the years where the McBling aesthetic was most popular and Motorola Razrs and T-Mobile Sidekicks were everywhere.

Yeah that makes sense, 2005 is that year when plenty 90s remnants like “Friends” wasn’t even a thing, Twitter didn’t exist, the iPhone wouldn’t be released in 2 years, so only flip phones and bricks everywhere. Height of reality tv. I could go on further but I think we both get the idea. It’s an isolated short time period.

Height of reality tv. I could go on further but I think we both get the idea. It’s an isolated short time period. Eh I wouldn't go as far as to call core 2000s phones "bricks", as that implies they hadn't changed much since the 80s/90s, and we all know that's not true. Core 2000s phones are, on one hand, way more featured and advanced than what we had in previous decades, yet also completely outdated by 2010s-present standards. The T-Mobile Sidekick was the most advanced cellphone in the core 2000s, AKA the cellphone Paris Hilton had and that came with AIM. But yeah, smartphones did exist, but NOT touchscreen smartphones, and nobody was going around using words like "app" to describe shit. People played games on the go on the PSP, Nintendo DS, and Game Boy Advance, not on cellphones. That's what really defined the 2000s, the fact it was a time before smartphones impacted every single fucking aspect of our lives. Twitter did come into existence in 2006, but NOBODY was using it then. Same goes for Facebook. 2006 was all about MySpace. So was 2007. 2008 is really where the transition to 2010s internet occurs, with platforms like Facebook exploding in popularity. I still think it's more 2000s though. 2009 is where things really begin to shift, especially with Facebook becoming the most popular social media platform, YouTube stars like Fred receiving mainstream attention, and YouTube itself gradually becoming more professional rather than the EXTREMELY amateurish videos that defined 2005-2008, not to mention the introduction of HD. Yeah TV in 2005 was VERY 2000s. Streaming was not a thing yet and Netflix didn't have their own shows. This was cable TV's golden age. Since I was young back then, I recall networks like Nickelodeon, Disney Channel, and Cartoon Network all being huge. 2005 was the ONLY year that Malcolm In the Middle, LOST, AND The Office all coexisted. You had plenty of reality shows like Pimp My Ride and The Simple Life that defined culture. 90s remnants in animation were also gone. Instead, it was all about SpongeBob, Fairly OddParents, and anime-style cartoons like Teen Titans and Avatar: The Last Airbender. The Simpsons was irrelevant, it was all about Family Guy, which was revived for a fourth season, South Park, and American Dad, which was new at this time. 2006 was extremely similar, whilst 2007 saw a brief Simpsons interest revival (due to the movie), and shows like SpongeBob and FOP were going downhill, not to mention the Boston bomb scare.

Honestly, 2000 had WAY more in common with 1996 than 2004, especially in terms of politics, technology, and gaming. I'm gonna be blunt and say that though transitional, 2000 is more 90s than 00s (even if not in every aspect). If you disagree, that's fine, but I can tell you a whole host of reasons why I think the way I do.

My mistake when I said brick phone I meant those hard sidekick phones at the time with keyboards. That was they’re nickname at the time where I lived Yeah I was around at the time since I was a kid but I don’t remember the exact details of everything going on around the time except for somethings that caught my interest unlike some people here.
