going to chime in here, was in 4th grade during the 97/98 school year it felt nothing like the 2000s despite Y2K taking off, The 2000s like the 2000s 2000s started in last week of August 2001. That is when it felt like the 2000s. The 2000s has so many faces people can’t decide what era of the decade should be the face of it 2005-2007 IMO is peak 2000s and the most representative era of the decade.

Maybe you should de-read my post and point to me where I said that the year 2000 was exactly alike years prior to it as I only mentioned the Late 90s because many artists and fashion styles including Presidents of were only focusing on the US were the same. I don’t get why you always think on the site and the last one prior to it that your word is the absolute truth. We all have different opinions here and the Y2K era spanned 2 decades both the 90s and 2000s, Just from watching old TV news broadcasts the Y2K bug was a much bigger deal in 1999 then in the years the followed and last time I checked the calendar 1999 is a 90s year. It wasn't just artists, it's also video games that make 2000 similar to late 1996-1999, rather than 2001 onwards. The Y2K era is also defined as being the transition between the 90s and 00s. Not "OMG it's the 90s or 00s". Like it's not particularly similar to the core 90s or core 00s. It's its own thing. That’s true, The Grunge 90s and McBling 2000s were not a thing yet during this time period. It’s basically the era inbetween

It’s the only era of the decade that doesn’t overlap with any other decade on a calendar except the decade it was it and that makes it the pure 2000s.

In relation to what you said about garage rock, late 2001 is when you had the release of Is This It by The Strokes, which music publications were raving about, and then lots of bands in the early-mid 2000s were influenced by that album.

Yeah def, GBA was the event of the summer. Playing 32 bit 2D games on a handheld was unreal. As 2001 got closer and closer to the end you saw a plethora of great amazing games. The garage rock revival started making newstands in Summer 2001 as "the next big thing" and obviously it was super plant ish because their song didn't even hit yet lol

I think that’s actually starting to change now on TikTok. A lot of things that are trending are stuff from the mid 2000s McBling era. The core 2000s are almost 20 and getting more recognition. Did the Y2K era even last that long in the 2000s. According to most sources it only lasted until 2001 ? Which isn’t long enough to even define the whole decade I think once Y2K nostalgia became popular, that’s when the transition into core 2000s nostalgia started to become a thing

It’s just that in 1999 it was right at the core of the era since it was the year the world was supposedly going to crash because computers wouldn’t be able to understand “00” or something at the economy would crash because of that
